You don’t get any benefit from having your resistances over 75%, unless you also increase your max resistance cap. Increasing your max resists can be very beneficial and reduce the damage you take significantly. You could theoretically reach over 100% in some max elemental resist and become completely immune to that damage type, but in practice it’s pretty hard to achieve. The simplest way to get 5% to max Lightning, Fire or Cold resist is to use Purity of Fire, Lightning or Ice auras. Ruby, Topaz and Sapphire flasks also…

Path of Exile: Recommended Armor for Mapping
Armor is only a part of your defenses. It’s effectiveness is also tied with your health, so you should work on a balance of both to get the most out of each. It also depends if you’re in softcore or hardcore; obviously in HC leagues you’ll want to get higher defenses before you tackle 72+ maps. Also important to note are levels, being the same level as monsters or 10 levels above can make a huge impact to your overall survivability. For level 72 maps I’d recommend you try to…
Read MoreAttack Speed vs Damage in Path of Exile Builds
Generally, is it better to build damage or attack speed, and why? Attack speed: Attack speed affects all damage (physical or elemental) Faster attack speed can apply Life on Hit faster High attack speed will drain your mana quicker, so if you rely on mana leech at some point it may become unsustainable. Attacking faster may apply critical strikes or elemental status effects quicker. Not affected as much by enemy’s dodge/block Damage: If an attack hits for a lot of damage in one hit a part of monster’s armor is…
Read MoreWhich League to play in Path of Exile
There are currently four leagues available to play in Path of Exile. It’s sort of like PoE’s version of “servers”, where characters and their items only exist in a particular league and can’t be cross-traded or transferred (at least not in typical ways). You are able to talk to players from any league, but you’re otherwise unable to interact with them. If you plan on playing with friends make sure you are all in the same league! Standard & Hardcore leagues Standard and Hardcore leagues are the two most basic…
Read MorePath of Exile Which Gems Should You Pick Up
With the recent influx of new players I see this question asked multiple times in chat channels, including my guild chat. There’s a ton of different gems and understanding their value when you’re just beginning with the game can be confusing for newbies. This post will provide you with some basic rules about (non-quality) gems and their value in Standard league so the next time you’re offered a choice after finishing a quest you’ll know exactly what to take. High(er) value gems Most gems in Path of Exile can be…
Read MoreShredder: Dual Wield Physical Damage Build
After patch 1.0.0 (PoE release) my old build got nerfed significantly. It required quite a lot of changes to be viable again and just didn’t have the same flavor. Nevertheless I decided to stick with it as pretty much every other build is boring to play for me. The old goals of the build are still the same: making a strong melee character with high survivability who is able to solo any content in the game. Despite strong nerfs the build still manages to do plenty of DPS and is…
Read MoreElder Scrolls Online Leveling Guide
The Elder Scrolls Online is probably the most anticipated MMORPG since Star Wars: The Old Republic. Since SWTOR was released there weren’t many AAA titles released but ESO is about to change all that. ESO is based on the incredibly popular Elder Scrolls franchise that has stolen months or even years of time from the most dedicated RPG gamers. Morrowind, Oblivion and of course Skyrim were one of the best-selling single-player RPG games in history which speaks volumes about the upcoming online title. The Elder Scrolls Online allows players to…

Read MoreUsing Orbs of Chance For Loot
There’s only one way of getting great loot in Path of Exile: get lucky. Loot is in integral part of the game and has its value, and we all want the best equipment possible for our characters. The only consistent way to get great endgame items is to craft them, which requires an enormous amount of currency but is somewhat less RNG based, depending on how much you’re willing to invest. If you’re hoping for an item to drop for you then you’re in for a rough ride. Items which…
Read MoreThings I Hate About Path of Exile
I’ve been playing Path of Exile for over 6 months now and I’ve enjoyed it quite a lot. After awhile though you start noticing various problems with any game and PoE is no different, despite still being in beta. There are some game aspects that are just frustrating or confusing and lately it’s been infuriating me on occasion. Here’s my top list of issues I have with this game. 1. Trading For a game based so much on loot making trading with other players so inconvenient is a mysterious move…
Read MoreHow Increased Item Quantity and Rarity Works
I got asked recently about Increased Item Quantity and Increased Item Rarity stats and how they work so hopefully this short post will explain some basics to new players. It’s one of many game mechanics that new players seem to have a hard time figuring out at first although it isn’t as complicated as it may seem. Note: IIQ and IIR combined is often referred to as MF – Magic Find. What’s Increased Item Quantity? Increased Item Quantity (IIQ) affects the number of items dropped by monsters you slay. As…
Read MoreVendor Recipes You Should Be Using
There are quite a few vendor recipes in Path of Exile and some are more useful than others. Most are in fact not worth using consistently but there are a few that are easy to use and produce more valuable currency. I’m not a big fan of having 10 or more stash tabs dedicated to useless rare items that I might one of these days turn into an Alchemy Orb, but some recipes are just too good to pass. Below is a basic list of vendor recipes you should be…
Read MoreNew Recipe Discovered: 20% Quality Gems
New vendor recipe has recently been discovered that many players are already taking advantage of. I’ve seen the trade chat filled all day long now with people selling 20% quality gems, typically well overpriced. Just in case you were to fall prey to hundreds of players currently trying to earn a few coins make sure to remember the recipe. It’s overly simple and frankly it’s surprising it wasn’t already well-known. All you have to do is trade a level 20 gem and one Gemcutter’s Prism to a vendor and you’ll…
